In the past, he funded a scholarship at the university. His major was broadcasting and film and his minor English and speech. In May 1976, Stern graduated magna cum laude with a 3.8-grade point average. For the next five months, he taught students basic electronics in preparation for their own FCC exams.

With the license, Stern landed his first professional radio job at WNTN in Newton, Massachusetts from August to December 1975 doing air shifts, news casting, and production work.
He then studied for a diploma at the Radio Engineering Institute of Electronics in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in July 1975, which earned him a first-class radio-telephone operator license, a required certificate for all radio broadcasters at the time, which was issued by the Federal Communications Commission. In 1974, he gained admission to the university's School of Public Communications. Stern took cannabis, Quaaludes, and LSD during his studies, but he quit after he experienced a difficult trip on too much LSD. With three fellow students, he later co-hosted a weekly comedy show named The King Schmaltz Bagel Hour, which was initially canceled during its first broadcast for a racial sketch named "Godzilla Goes to Harlem". In his second year, he started work at the campus radio station WTBU, where he played records, read the news, and hosted interview programs. As of noon it sounded like his immediate family was all okay.In 1972, Stern declined a place at Elmira College to instead pursue a Communications degree at Boston University, but his average high school grades caused him to spend the first two years in its College of Basic Studies. He was doing such a great job that Tom Chiusano convinced him to stay until after noon. His coverage was pretty serious but there were still some light moments. (Update: 4:45pm) Howard stayed on the air until approximately 12:15pm covering the news of the terrorist attacks. Howard pretty much gave up control of his show and turned it over to the audio feed from CBS TV. He saw the collapse of the trade center buildings and you could hear his voice quivering as he described the collapse. Cabbie stayed on the line and gave his eyewitness account of what he was seeing from his building in Brooklyn. The phones were all tied up throughout the city so it was tough to take phone calls as the morning progressed. Howard thought about getting off the air shortly after all of this news broke but Tom convinced him to stay on the air. Howard’s General Manager Tom Chiusano told Howard that staying on the air was a good idea to let people have an outlet.

Crazy Cabbie called in and was just about crying as he vented his frustration with the whole terrorism thing. At one point Howard said he was speechless as he watched the fire burning in the World Trade Center.Īs the morning went on Howard had live audio feeds from the CBS network that he let through over the air. Howard then spent the rest of the show watching news reports from the scene and taking calls from eyewitnesses. He ended up getting off the phone to go watch. Ralph went to his window and saw that there was a huge fire over there. Ralph thinks Howard was just dumb and he should have just gone for it and banged her.ĭuring this discussion Howard broke in with the news that the World Trade Center had been hit by an airplane. Anyway, Ralph called in to tell Howard that he could have gotten Pam the last time they hung out together. He said he was the one who told Howard the story, that’s why he was laughing. Howard’s buddy Ralph then called in laughing like he’d heard the story before. Howard had just told a story about a ”friend” of his who rubbed one out while his date slept and he ended up leaving a mess on her ass. After playing the clip Howard and the crew were talking about how hot Pam is and about some of the sexual experiences they’ve had throughout their lives. Howard replayed a short interview he played the other day that Stuttering John did with Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson.
